Overview

Altai (https://www.altaicasting.com/) is an exciting, venture-capital funded, scale-up business in the Entertainment Sector. Our platform provides a fully integrated solution for those in the business of casting roles in film, TV, theatre, advertising and other forms of production.

We launched in December 2022, and are now in pursuit of a global roll-out. We now have a full time team of ten across three countries, plus a number of fractional domain experts.

In the next 12 months we will consolidate our position in our pilot market (Australia / New Zealand) and continue our global roll out.

About the candidate

We are now looking for a part-time / occasional Swift Engineer who'll be responsible for maintaining and expanding our MacOS Desktop App, and in due course (likely 2026) developing a mobile app. This is a remote role - the candidate can be based anywhere East of IST and West of CST, to ensure at least a partial overlap with the Australia timezone. This will be a “fractional” role to begin with, best fitting alongside either other smaller jobs or outside office hours.

Our desktop app has already been developed and requires occasional maintenance. A handover from the existing developer will be facilitated, and they’ll remain available for critical support.

Key Responsibilities:

Application Maintenance & Development

• Maintain and troubleshoot our existing macOS desktop application
• Develop new features and enhancements based on user feedback and business requirements
• Provide accurate time estimates for development work
• Ensure code quality through testing and code reviews

Release Management

• Support app releases through TestFlight and Mac App Store
• Manage deployment pipelines and version control
• Coordinate with QA team for testing and bug resolution

Strategic Technical Input

• Participate in product planning and technical architecture discussions
• Provide technical guidance on macOS best practices and platform capabilities
• Research and recommend new technologies and frameworks
• Future involvement in iOS app development planning and execution

Collaboration & Communication

• Work closely with founders and development team
• Translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders
• Participate in regular team meetings and planning sessions

Required Qualifications

Technical Requirements

• 5+ years of Swift development experience with demonstrable macOS desktop applications
• Native macOS development expertise using AppKit, SwiftUI, and Cocoa frameworks
• iOS development experience with App Store releases and mobile app architecture
• Networking and API integration experience, including REST APIs, JSON handling, and network security
• Experience with video capture and processing on macOS (highly preferred)
• Proficiency with Xcode, Interface Builder, and macOS development tools
• Understanding of macOS app distribution, code signing, and notarization processes
• Experience with Git version control and collaborative development workflows

Industry Experience

• Startup/scale-up environment experience with understanding of resource constraints
• Ability to balance rapid development with code quality and maintainability
• Experience with agile development methodologies

Additional Technical Skills (Preferred)

• Core Data or other data persistence frameworks
• Performance optimization and memory management
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines
• Experience with cloud services and backend integration
